  • The meeting started with the Discussion of the Agenda items on Duties of Deans by Dr T.D Dogra where each point was discussed in detail.
  • Chairman Sir addressed by stating that presently “Execution of the ideas” is the focus of man-agreement.
  • Dean will be the overall Manager, managing all the things, no CRC, no placement cell will help. Deans will be evaluated of their leadership in how they make their faculty work. Chairman Sir addressed that if Dean is weak, whole faculty becomes directionless.
  • Sir urged that Deans should develop a business sense, students should be used a employees. This will be a great opportunity of learning for students but it will also give manpower for the Univer-sity. Sir said that since ours is a private University, it is very important for us to generate funds ourselves and to generate a goodwill, a good name among public. And for this, management is ready to give full support to the Deans but then the results are expected in the form of admis-sions, increased quality of work and creating a brand name of one’s faculty
  • Sir said that deans should not appoint any faculty under influence or compromise. Only efficient, knowledgeable faculty members should be appointed. And then freedom of expression should be given to the faculty members to grow in their own field, in research as this will be beneficial for the University as well as for students.
  • Also sir told that a sense of authority also should be installed among the faculty members and they should be made to realize that management will be supporting them at all cost, they should be ready/ confident to take independent decisions which are in the interest of the institution.
  • On discussing about the duties of deans, Sir mentioned that Deans should take care of the ad-missions, should arrange for finances, should control and manage their expenditure and should develop a strong networking whether national or international that will be beneficial for student learning in the form of student exchange programs, student training and will give a good expo-sure to the students.
  • Discussing the syllabus and examination methods sir mentioned that modifications in the teach-ing pattern and examination is required. Newer teaching methodologies as explained by Dr Dogra should be incorporated and the practical component should be increased in the existing pattern of examinations to make it at least equal to theory. This will improve the practical learning of students.
  • Sir stated that deans should focus on increasing the interest of students in academics. Students who get 75% attendance and who perform better in weekly, monthly formative assessment should be made eligible for scholarships. More and more students should be motivated enough to apply for scholarships as this will make the student more responsible, reduce the indiscipline acts, invoke/generate interest of the students in academics. This will overall help the University as the energy that is spent on solving minor disputes will be channelized into something very useful.
  • Also students should be encouraged in front of their peers if they achieve in academics or in any other activity to boost the morale and to increase the confidence.
  • Deans should be updated about ERP and. Should be uploading the attendance and regular lec-tures, assignments in ERP. A separate class to acquaint Deans about ERP can also be arranged.
  • So many corporate heads have visited our University but their visits have not been used for our benefit, There is no protocol to receive the guests and to welcome them. No follow up / effective communication is maintained with the guests. This should be taken care of as this will greatly im-prove the placements for our students. Also, industry or corp-orates visit may lead to interdiscipli-nary placements. So deans should not only be limited to their own faculty but should have effec-tive communication with other faculty to increase their placement also.
  • To have better communication among all the deans, a fortnightly meeting should be arranged for all the Deans to acquaint oneself about each others resources and how one faculty can be helpful for other faculties in terms of learning, training, placement and research.
  • For the fresh batch students, induction programmes and orientation programs should be conduct-ed at a gap of 15-20 days where general overview, scope, govt policies about education should be explained to the students in a friendly way, to remove the fear among the students, to make them comfortable especially when it comes to communication in English. In faculties where English is a subject, instead of teaching the students with noun, pronoun and tense, practical English learn-ing, spoken English should be taught. New methods should be devised to teach English to stu-dents like a big paragraph of say 00 words. Can be given and students can be asked to concise it into 100 words.
  • The focus should be improving Teaching quality standards and to make more practical learning for the students.
