Minutes of the meeting on CBCS

A meeting for the implementation of CBCS from current semester was called by Prof. Waheeda Khan, for the Deans of various faculties of SGT University, on behalf of IQAC at A Block at 3pm on 6.12.17.

The following members were present:

The topic of discussion was introduced by Prof.T D Dogra. Prof. Anil Gupta, Dean Dental Sciences said CBCS cannot be implemented as council approval still waited. Prof. Dogra clarified the complexity of council approvals and requested FDS to design courses as electives for other students of the university. Prof. Waheeda Khan informed that the advisory committee on CBCS has decided that in place of the earlier 4 credits/100 marks we shall have 2 credits i.e. 2 hours of teaching to be started from January 2018 for 100 marks. The University in the present session has around 1400 students in the first year and CBCS shall be introduced for them from the current semester. Prof. Dabur, dean agriculture, suggested that the courses be offered on first come first basis and each course should have a maximum of 60 students. Prof Waheeda said that each dean should intimate about the 2 courses which their faculty is going to offer. She also suggested that the syllabi and the courses should be interest generating such as course on “cyber crime”. Prof. Dinkar, dean law, said that the students should be informed about the course option well in advance. Prof. Dabur wanted to know how to insist upon the students to opt for the CBCS. Prof. Gupta said that this shall be an added teaching burden on the faculty. Prof. Dogra said that initially medical and dental faculty shall be excluded from the preview of CBCS. Dr. Bali, additional controller examinations, suggested that we can have a counseling session for the students of the university. It was unanimously decided that Wednesday 2PM to 4 PM shall be a common period in the university for CBCS and all deans shall submit their CBCS program to Prof. Waheeda.

After deliberation it was unanimously decided that:

  • CBCS be implemented from 8th Jan 2018 onwards.
  • The form for options of courses shall be distributed among students by 8.12.17 so that the choices are received in time to plan the schedule of classes.
  • The counseling of students for course should be completed by 2.1.18.
  • There shall be not more than 60 students per class.
  • The options shall be allotted on first come first basis.
  • The classes for CBCS electives shall be held on every Wednesday from 2pm-4pm in all faculties of the university.
